29: Coffee

I can do all things through Coffee which strengthens me. Yes…that really is how I feel. Obviously I can also do all things through Christ which strengthens me. I am a religious person, and I know that I shouldn’t have a false god. But coffee is an important part of my morning routine.

I have at least one cup of coffee every morning. I prefer some skim milk with it. I want just a splash, and I want the milk to be cold (this differs from my mom who warms her milk prior to adding it to her coffee). Hotel coffee is not my jam, first of all there is never skim milk to be had, and second of all the coffee is “meh”.

I’m glad canned coffee is becoming a thing. I’m all for trying the fancy brands, but the Starbucks and Caribou options work for me. The canned coffee is what I resort to if Jeff and I are driving somewhere and I need a pick me up. Obviously I also love a Diet Coke, but that is a lunch time/afternoon treat for me. In the morning I need coffee.

Creamers are not for me. They seem to settle in my stomach funny. I don’t know if it is the cream part or the flavor part, but I am just not a fan. I like iced coffee and used to regularly buy it from Trader Joes. I know I could make it on my own, but I don’t. And now that I work from home, I just make a cup of coffee in the Keurig when I get up, and sip it during the first hour or so of work.

I also know Keurigs are not the finest vessel for brewing coffee, but I find it acceptable. I love the idea of French press, and often consider buying the Le Creuset French press, but haven’t.

This week’s picture was taken Friday morning and was actually my second cup of the day. I don’t frequently have a second cup, but my grandpa is currently going through hospice, so a second cup was necessary. As I type this Saturday afternoon I have no idea what the next 12, 24, 36, or more hours holds for our family, but I know we can all agree on a life well lived, and plenty of coffee to go around.

What is your favorite morning beverage? How do you take your coffee?

  1. COFFEE … Black, with a bit of sugar free syrup, ice – is nice too because I prefer cold beverages, and if I am not going to be working out I’ll add some skim milk. Dairy and exercise does not mix well with my stomach! I agree that Starbucks and Caribou are great sources of coffee! I was actually at the starbucks where we met for the first time yesterday and thought of you! Hope all is well! ❤

  2. I’m so sorry to hear your grandpa is in hospice. That is so awful and sad. I know how close to your grandparents you are.

Coffee is life right now. I have about 3-4 cups/day. It’s probably too much but sleep is a real issue right now (I got less than 6 hours last night). I like Starbucks lattes with just a little SF vanilla syrup. At home I use FF French vanilla creamer!

  3. I’m so sorry to hear about your grandpa. You talk about your grandparents and how much you love spending time with them so much… I hope you and your family are doing okay these days.
I am recently back on the coffee train, but finding that I need to limit myself to 1 cup and then switch to Diet Coke (my one vice, so yes, I’m going to ignore all the warnings and just enjoy it, for Pete’s sake…). Otherwise, I get way too wired!
