I’m pretty good at getting up early. But I was making cheese trays and homemade salad dressing at 7 am on Saturday, and I really just wanted to be asleep in my bed. One of my childhood friends is pregnant with twins and we have a mother daughter shower for life events in the group.
This is our 3rd baby shower in the covid time. In the fall of 2020 we had an outdoor girls only (no moms) shower as we wanted to keep the group smaller. In the summer of 2021 we had a girls and moms outdoor shower as we were all vaccinated. This time we added a negative test to the entry request.
When you have known people for multiple decades, it makes gathering easy and fun. We all know each other, there are no introductions, but there is a lot to catch up on. We were all gathered by 11 am, some of us arrived earlier to set up, and it was about 3 pm by the time we left.
Time together is good, but it is always too short, and at the same time, I don’t socialize as much as I used to, so group time can be overwhelming. It will be very interesting to see how relationships and friendships evolve as covid evolves. I’m hopeful that this group will see each other through whatever life throws at us.
Do your friend groups have any special traditions to mark life celebrations?
