I basically posted this last week, but Summer is slipping away. The rain this week brought some welcome cool-offs. Jeff and I went up to visit my parents, and we will be back up north for Labor Day weekend. it seems like I didn’t have enough lake time this summer, but it also seems that we were busier than usual with family time and wedding celebrations.
Friday night the long work week caught up to me and I had a headache that would not go away. I got decent sleep Friday night, but Saturday morning I was still not 100%. This coming week at work will be just as long, but I’m not behind yet, so I feel hopeful that I will stay caught up.

Saturday the rain rolled in and Jeff and I decided to go out for lunch since neither of us had eaten breakfast. We tried Dunmires which is just outside of Brainerd, and is your typical apps and burgers spot, but the nachos we had were really good, and I would go again.
Saturday afternoon it suddenly cleared up and my mom and I were able to go on a walk. There was thankfully a breeze but I still came home sweaty and decided to take a dip in the lake, which was chilly and didn’t feel like we were in a heat wave all summer.
After family dinner, Jeff and I went back out in the boat. Jeff loves fishing, and I am willing to sit in the boat in the evenings. I don’t love fishing, but maybe someday I’ll learn.
So as summer slips by I’m trying my best to find moments to enjoy, even when work is overwhelmingly busy, and even when people let me down, and even when things don’t go quite the way I planned.
How do you relax when you are overtired?
I don’t like fishing either so I would always bring a book or magazine instead. It is really relaxing and peaceful to be on the water!
I was so happy for all the rain over the weekend but wish it had come during the week. I was down and out with a stomach bug though so it didn’t make that much of a difference for me. I loved jumping in the lake after a long run. It is so refreshing!
We only got up to the lake twice this summer. I don’t know when we will be back. The drive was so awful last time – not because of traffic but because of our screaming baby!!! Ay yi yi.
