37: Walking

I’ve completed 5 weeks of working from home. The manic “must walk twice per day” has subsided, and I’ve settled into my routine a bit. There are still some things that give me anxiety, and I find myself trying to “plan” way more than appropriate (even if it is just a meal plan).

There have been a few days where I have skipped my walk, and it has felt like the right choice. There have been other days where i haven’t wanted to go out, but I did anyways, and I was glad that I walked in the end.

At the beginning of the year I was using the couch to 10k app, I wasn’t running when it told me to run, but just using it as a guide for getting outside. I’ve progressed into week 10 of 13 in the program, and I’m up to 58 minute walks.

Once I’ve completed all 13 weeks, my plan is to re-start the couch to 5k app, and actually jog on the running parts. Will I be in top running shape when this quarantine is over? Nope! Do I care? Also, nope!

I’m just doing the best I can with the time I’ve got. Some days I can coax myself to pick up my condo, and go for a walk, and make a decent dinner. Other nights I skip the walk (and pretend I don’t see the mess, and enjoy a treat) and allow myself to wallow a bit.

So hopefully you are doing the best you can, and not giving yourself too much guilt.

  1. We’ve been taking lots of walks, too. No running for me either. Maybe someday when I feel less tired! Ha! But walking is a great form of exercise and keeps all of us sane. We did skip walks Sunday-Tuesday of last week as it was just so cold. I had no patience for snow or wind or cold. But we made up for it later in the week.

    Overall we are doing ok. It’s hard to balance caring for Paul with working but we try to remind ourselves that we are actually very lucky. We have our healthy, jobs, are financially secure and we have plenty of food in our fridge and cupboards. So we are doing so much better than so many people. But these days are definitely very long and hard
