This weekend was quiet. Friday night I babysat my brother while my parents went out to dinner. Saturday morning I went to yoga at 10 am, and then drove over to Brainerd. I got a pedicure and a manicure and sat quietly for 2 hours occasionally flipping through a magazine and on my phone. I did try to take deep breaths and enjoy the moment as much as possible.
Then I ran a few errands to the grocery store, liquor store and costco. I was especially mad at the liquor store. I was hoping to pick up a Leinenkugels Summer Sampler box and could only find the Fall sampler. I’m not ready for fall beer yet, its not Labor day yet!
I came home in the afternoon in time to babysit my brother again as my parents are off to Florida for a few days.
Which means I’m currently sitting at work all alone. It seems like I’ve been doing a lot and I really can’t remember the last time I had a lazy weekend. At some points it was depressing and I wanted to get out and freaking do something. But at the same point I felt like it was important to be quiet and do things without being hurried.
Saturday night I made Crispy Gnocchi from Iowa Girl Eats, I changed the receipe a little adding extra veggies to the mix, and it was super delicious!! Sunday night I made Crab Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms loosely based on this recipe from Peanut Butter Runner. I served it on a bed of sauteed spinach.
It was amazing to get back into the kitchen and play around without anyone watching. (I hate cooking a new recipe when others are watching/waiting for the meal).
On Sunday afternoon I cleaned my room, read magazines and debated going for a long bike ride, or at least getting a walk in. However I just couldn’t get myself to go. My normal walking buddy has moved away and I just didn’t feel like going out by myself. This morning I taught Yoga Sculpt and packed my clothes to get a run in this evening after work!
Have you had a Quiet weekend lately? Do you fear cooking new recipes for people?
we should have a dinner party together. that crispy gnocci looks amazing 🙂
That gnocci looks awesome! I love Iowa Girl Eats recipes, they are all super good. And I totally know what you mean about having a hard time relaxing. .. i always feel like I need to be doing something – but sometimes relaxing is all you need to be doing!! 🙂
that gnocci looks awesome! i’m realizing i really need a lot of downtime on the weekends just to be by myself and lounge around watching TV, reading, sleeping, just being on my own.
I definitely need those weekends every now and then, but if I have another slow weekend this weekend I will get a little grumpy/sad, I need to be around people too!
