April 2012 Recap

Happy May Day! Did you receive a May basket? Have you ever? I must say that I never have…however my mom tells some great stories about how there used to be May Baskets when she was a kid.

With a new month comes a new recap!

#1 (Run a half marathon) I have 1 month and 16 days to go! I’ll actually be completing a long run today since I didn’t get it in over the weekend.

#2 (Learn 12 new recipes) Did you catch last week’s “I made it, I ate it: P.F. Chang“? I also have been making OIAJ (oats in a jar) lately but have yet to photograph for a blog post. I promise that will come soon!

#3 (Put my college pictures into photo albums) I have printed some of the photos, the scrapbook is here. Now I just need to get them in the dang album!

#4 (Create a race scrapbook) I am now 2 races in to 2012 and still haven’t started. Maybe for memorial weekend?

#5 (Make 12 time or money donations to various charities and/or nonprofits.) Since I didn’t donate in March I actually made 2 donations this month! One to my dear friend Alex who is raising money for the Animal Humane Society by doing a walk with her dog Auggie. The other donation was for dear ol’ GAC. If you are a 2010 Gustavus grad I highly recommend you donate before the month is up, there is a competition right now to see what class can donate the most, and every little bit helps!  If you need a reason, think back to how awesome the Johnny Holm concert was during senior week!

#6 (Learn to blog!) I attempted to add a few more tools and link my twitter account. I’m seriously considering hiring someone to design my blog, while another part of me wants to learn to do it myself.

#7 (Finish the New Rules of Lifting For Women program.) Uff Da. Good thing I’ve got a year on this goal. I am doing a decent job on training for my half, but this program hasn’t been touched since March. And I don’t have my gym membership right now.

#8 (Remember to be Thankful.) Due to traveling and distance between my apartment, home, and friends, I was especially thankful that I got to celebrate my birthday a few different times with different groups of people. They are all so important to me!

#9 (Get a better handle on finances.) I had a very weak moment in April where I almost bought something that didn’t fit into the budget. Thankfully Duluth has limited shopping and the item I wanted I wasn’t willing to buy online. Crisis averted!

#10 (Get least 10 minutes of fitness each day.) My runs in April were heavy on the rain and snow. I’m actually getting nervous for hot summer weather. It’s easy to add a layer but it is not easy to remove layers.

#11 (Do 5 minutes of clean up each day.) I always thought of myself as a neat person, however lately the piles are being hidden and not conducive to finding things. Kindle charger where are you?!?!

#12 (Take the time to breathe.) Work seems to be getting crazier with each passing day, and finding the time to relax is more difficult. But I’m doing okay.

All in all: I’m proud of how April shaped up! There’s always room for improvement, but I’m not going to beat myself up over not having a scrapbook done or not working on a particular workout regimen.


  1. Those are great goals, and it’s great that you’re meeting them! The half marathon training is especially exciting. I’m not 100% committed yet but I think I’ll be doing one in July, and the prep work is HARD but so worth it!
