Travel Confession and How to Pack

I’m off on my next adventure tomorrow! My bag is packed (other than what I need in the morning) and I’ll be leaving bright and early even though the flight isn’t until the afternoon.

I love to travel, but I tend to go to the same places over and over again. Therefore, when I’m about to embark on a new adventure I get a little more nervous. Did I pack everything? Should I do another sweatshirt? Or do I need more shorts?

Here’s my secret to make sure I’ve packed everything. First I start a preliminary pile of clothes I think I’ll want. Then I write down the days I’ll be gone, and include any special events that will occur on that day. For this trip the list started as: Friday (fly), Saturday (explore and prom), Sunday (race, post race, dinner) and Monday (fly). I’m picky about what I wear when flying so those clothes were picked out first, then I threw in a few casual clothes, a few sun dresses, one tan sweater that can go with anything, and finally the clothes for the race.

As for all the tech accessories that are included in our daily lives (phones, ipods, kindles, etc.) I make sure to write out each of those items I will need as well as the charger associated with each of them. Otherwise, its almost guaranteed I will forget them.

For the record: I am not going to prom, but I will be watching prom go-ers take pictures, and I can’t wait!!

Why isn’t there prom for adults? And do you have any travel and packing secrets?

  1. I always have such a hard time packing, and end up just trying to fit in as much as possible instead of trying to pack ‘smart’. My rationale is that I want choices when I get to my destination, but I think the real reason is that it’s so hard for me to organize and decide ahead of time what I am going to need/wear. In regard to prom, maybe start a tradition of an adult prom equivalent?

    1. Well considering the derby just happened I would say that is some people’s adult prom, the hats were so intense! I totally feel you on wanting choices on vacation, but I also like the idea of shopping when I’m at my destination!
